FreeBSD 10 won't add swap file

I was following the instructions in the handbook. I have a swap file, and it is set to 0600 permissions. I also added this line to fstab: md99 none swap sw,file=/swap 0 0 Running swapon -aq returns with exit status 0, and no error message. The swap file is not mounted. Any ideas?

    Undefined symbol apreq_hook_disable_uploads

Solved by compiling it myself. Was not linking against apache.

    Undefined symbol apreq_hook_disable_uploads

Packages. I don't have the ports tree.

    Undefined symbol apreq_hook_disable_uploads

I am getting the following error when using Apache2::Request in a mod_perl app I made years ago. Can't load '/usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.16/mach/auto/APR/Request/Request.so' for module APR::Request: /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.16/mach/auto/APR/Request/Request.so: Undefined symbol...

    Conflict disaster with pkgng

When it comes to slow commands, I was referring to things like "pkg search", "pkg version" and others. It could be a slow connection but it seems consistently slow. I'll look into it when I have time (that is to say, I will never look into it).

    Conflict disaster with pkgng

I managed to resolve this (for the most part) by nuking every package and starting anew. Everything seems to be ok now. Couple observations: Most pkg operations are glacially slow. It seems that dependencies are needlessly "hard". mysqlbackup wants version mysql 5.5, not 5.6. I bet it works...

    Conflict disaster with pkgng

I upgraded my system to use pkgng a while back, and I'm left in a state where I can't upgrade the packages, and some of them are hosed. I get numerous errors such as the one below: pkg: WARNING: locally installed qt4-qtestlib-4.8.5 conflicts on /usr/local/include/qt4/QtTest/qtestxmlstreamer.h...

    Non-awful issue tracker?

Thanks everyone. I went with Trello. It meets my needs for the most part, and was quite painless to set up. TODO: uninstall Jira.

    Non-awful issue tracker?

I need an issue tracker for my personal life. It will have things like "replace windshield" and "fix bike". I don't need fancy workflows. I installed Jira, but it's an absolute monster; it takes about 2G of RAM. Not acceptable. Trac is too old, and I don't want a wiki. Bloodhound requires...

FreeBSD 10 - worst release ever?

How skilled are we talking? The author used "then" instead of "than" about a zillion times.

Will FreeBSD merge with other BSDs?

Are you sure? I would imagine that Linus' demeanor is actually hindering the project a fair bit. The difference is that he is getting away with it because the project is so successful on its own.

Will FreeBSD merge with other BSDs?

I wouldn't worry too much about the fate of OpenSSH or PF, or the couple of other things that have come from the OpenBSD project. Those things will live on because so many people use them. But the OS, and these ridiculous power bills will likely falter, and so be it. I've never met Mr. De...

Will FreeBSD merge with other BSDs?

If they can't secure funding, it's because no one is using it and cares to support it. OpenBSD may in fact be a better mouse trap, but with lack of interest, it's lights out. In this case, that is both metaphorical and literal. Death is part of the cycle. If you don't like it, help out. If you...

Does FreeBSD need a cool alias or another name?

I've never liked the name. It sounds funny (odd) when you say it out loud, and no one knows what it is, which makes it worse. Freee Beee Ess Deeee.

    Gmail and Skype alternatives

If you want true email privacy, you are going to need to colocate a server of your own. In any other case, there is an admin that is not you who has access to the machine and thus the data on it.

    IOS 7 making people sick

Whatever. If this is a problem for someone, they can use a different device. Apple owes you what they owe me: nothing.

Opera is dropping FreeBSD, it's (almost) official.

I quite literally had forgotten that Opera existed until I saw this thread. With things like Chromium or even Firefox available, I must officially declare "who cares" on this one.

Are FreeBSD developers ever going to start focusing on user facing stuff?

Could be. I have a colleague that works there; I should ask him if he knows what motivated that decision.
