    Image viewing/organization

Hi all, I'm trying to find some image viewing/organizing software that specifically supports a duplicate search function. I like preview mode in dolphin but it's time consuming to sort images in this way. If possible, something easy on the system. Any suggestions?

    ATOM processors

I am looking to lease a dedicated machine and was referred to a host by a reliable source that provides a low cost dedicated server with a dual core ATOM cpu (no idea of the exact model #). As the ATOM is made by Intel I'm going to assume that it is capable of x86/amd64 cpu instructions. What...

    startx error after changing vga

You don't really need to configure xorg anymore. Once you install the nvidia driver, install and run x11/nvidia-xconfig. That will pretty much take care of all your configuration needs.

    Teamspeak 3

Hello all, I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for using the Teamspeak 3 linux x86 client with FreeBSD (amd64). I've tried the win32 client with the wine packages from http://people.freebsd.org/~ivoras/wine/ without success and the early linux beta clients work as expected, however...

Routing WAN IP to local IP in an application that is unaware?

It is definitely possible from the code standpoint, as even Eggdrop is capable of DCC through the LAN/NAT, with proper port forwarding, which I have (It has configuration settings to specify local IP bind as well as another setting for external/WAN IP). I am almost certain there is some kind...

Routing WAN IP to local IP in an application that is unaware?

To be honest, I had no idea what to summarize my issue as in the subject; pardon any misunderstanding. I have a rather old application (2003) that needs to be able to accept and create DCC connections. It was apparently not coded to be aware of private network IP addresses and when any...

An interesting introduction to assembly on FreeBSD

I stumbled across this a few days ago and I haven't seen anything like it before on the fbsd forum, or anywhere else for that matter. Thought I'd share and hope that someone can get some use out of it. http://www.int80h.org/bsdasm/

SysInfo: a set of scripts that document your system

Hi, Is this no longer available from the author (the link is obviously 404)? If so, does anyone have a copy online they could share?

    Beginner C tutorial

Hate to revive an old thread, but no one mentioned the O'reilly book, C in a nutshell. Though it is a reference book, it does have an introduction to C. I have found it an invaluable resource in my daily programming. It contains information on nearly every function you'll use over time (the C...

power on hours and ancient scsi disks

Hey all, I'm simply trying to find out the power on hours of my (still operational) poweredge 2400 scsi disks. So far, I've not been able to find any kind of information on how I can access that info, smartctl or no. I have four scsi disks in a RAID1, using a PowerEdge 2 /Si Expandable RAID...

Upgrade to KDE 4.3.4 from 4.3.1

I ran a complete upgrade last night using /usr/ports/ports-mgmt/portupgrade. Updated everything I have installed.. well over 700 packages (of course some didn't need or have updates). Granted, it took a full 24 hours and several trips back to the computer to adjust config settings, it worked...

    Microsoft Silverlight

Anyone that might have a Netflix subscription will find this useful, all of their streaming movies use Silverlight. I for one appreciate this port as nothing beats having 10,000 movies available for $8 bucks a month.

    Audio issues with wine (driver?)

Hello! I am having issues with appilcations that require sound. I am running FreeBSD 8.0-RC2 using the snd_hda driver with oss installed from ports. Sound is functioning when tested from within winecfg, but the error below is reported when winecfg and consequently, when any app with sound...

    Using a DVD-RAM.

K3b is hardcoded to use cd0, thus the symbolic link and those particular permissions are required in order for it to function correctly.

    Using a DVD-RAM.

    Solved (duh) chmod 666 /dev/acd0* && chmod 666 /dev/pass0 && chmod 666 /dev/xpt0 A symbolic link is also required from /dev/acd0 -> /dev/cd0 and /dev/cd0 required permissions 0666.

    Using a DVD-RAM.

I've found that K3b works well for me, however, I seem to have an issue with device permissions on /dev/acd0. The application will run and burn as intended, but only as root. (No CD/DVD writer found as unprivileged user) Any idea what permissions are required for K3b to detect the DVD-RAM...

    Using a DVD-RAM.

I have a few questions about DVD-RAM drives and their usage with DVD media. First, I've followed the steps from handbook section 18.7.9. This seemingly works flawlessly for DVD/RW media for copying files to the disk, however, what about DVD/R media? Will using dd not zero the disk and make...

    why so long time needed?

Portsnap downloads all ports in one file, then determines which need to be updated locally. Cvsup will compare your local ports with the most up to date ones individually. Portsnap saves time by downloading everything necessary in one file. Check 'man portsnap' for more info. There may be...
