I have been using dashes in my jail names for many years and have had no issues. If you have found a bug please open an issue and we would be happy to fix it.

    Suggestions about update approach

This is caused by the pkg repo on 10.2-RELEASE. By default it is configured to use the quarterly ports branch (i.e. https://svnweb.freebsd.org/ports/branches/2015Q4/). So only security updates and other build fixes are merged to it. Poudriere configured to use portsnap, will be building the...

    Forums Migration

Thanks for the feedback. I noticed the spam problem and got it sorted. From the import the guest user had access to post in all the forums and so you can see what happened. We should be better off now. I will take a look at the color schemes tomorrow. Currently I know I am still missing a...

    Forums Migration

Part of the reasons for this migration is vBulletin has changed the product a lot. It is so much more than just a forum now. It has tons of extra things that we do not want or need. Plus migrating to an open source solution has its advantages as well.

    Forums Migration

Hi everyone, I wanted to give you a heads up, that today I will be migrating The FreeBSD Forums from vBulletin to phpBB. The migration will take about two hours and during that time, the Forum will be inaccessible. Once the migration is complete everyone will have to reset their passwords via...

    Outage Report

Yeah, that is why I always do active probes for things like that. I am not a fan of SNMP traps, because something in the middle could fail and you would never know. I have been using OpenGear for a few years now and theirs work pretty well.

    Outage Report

Hi all, I wanted to give you all an idea what happened and what we are doing to mitigate similar outages. The machine gracefully powered itself down due to temperature thresholds. An air conditioner failure caused the temperature to spike. So this means that all the data is safe. Future...

    Raspberry Pi - GPIO Access...

FreeBSD has supported GPIO on the Raspberry Pi for quite a while.. See @gonzo@'s blog post here: http://kernelnomicon.org/?p=246. The I2c stuff is in the works.

    forums.freebsd.org doesn't respond on IPv6

It should be good now. It seems to be a transient issue that I will need to track down. I have setup monitoring on HTTP via IPv6 so I will be notified when it crops up again.

    RAID mirroring (RAID 1) advice

Also the HostRAID is very very bad.. I have seen multiple occasions where it corrupted entire systems. I saw one where the drives where out of sync, so if you do an ls -l once it showed files from 2009 and then again and it would show files from 2011. Also, don't forget to have backups too!
