    Plowshare

Plowshare has been updated a lot since the original post in this thread. It's now much more FreeBSD-friendly. https://code.google.com/p/plowshare/wiki/Readme4#Dependencies I installed bash, recode, curl and gsed and just did "bash setup.sh install" and everything installed and works perfectly...

    Firefox crashing in VNC

Hi. I've setup a jail with ezjail, running tightvnc for some graphical apps. Everything seems to work perfectly except for firefox. It crashes and coredumps every time I try to run it from the terminal inside the jailed VNC session. What works: ssh -X jail firefox ssh -X host firefox ssh...

    synproxy slowdown

Hi. I've got a server running pf that has been displaying some odd (at least to me) behavior. I use the "synproxy state"[1] option quite a few times in my config without any ill effects that I've noticed until now. I realized it was on every open port except for ssh, so I added it to my ssh...

    Building world/kernel in RAM

Thanks for your reply! Is there a reason it can't be set in /etc/make.conf? Seems only natural to put it there instead of specifying it every single time I rebuild. Though I guess I can just put it in /etc/profile.

    Building world/kernel in RAM

Hi. In my /etc/make.conf I have: WRKDIRPREFIX=/ram so that all my ports get built in a tmpfs RAM filesystem, but when I make buildworld or make buildkernel that option is not respected, and everything still goes in /usr/obj. Is there a way to make rebuilding world and kernel also put all the...

OpenBSD has GNOME 3 but we still don't, that's hard to believe..

    OpenSSL upgrade breaks OpenSSH

I don't see a fix for CVE-2012-2333. It came out a week after FreeBSD-SA-12:01.openssl. I believe the OpenSSL in base is still vulnerable. I wonder how many weeks we'll have to wait for it to be updated this time.

    pf.conf improvements

Thanks for your reply. I've added synproxy state to the TCP IN rules. I'll also add the ssh bruteforce line. I already monitor the ssh log very closely, but this will help, too. Any other suggestions are welcome.

    pf.conf improvements

Hi. I'm running pf on a public-facing server. It has a couple of services running and I'd like to protect it as much as I can with a firewall. So, I'm looking for any ideas or changes I could apply to my configuration file. "IP1" is the main IP for the server, "IP2" is a jail. Here is what I'm...

    Random reboot overnight

It just happened again, at a completely different time. Someone told me to add dumpdev="AUTO" dumpdir="/var/crash" to my /etc/rc.conf for better debugging of the issue. I did that, but all I can see is a file called /var/crash/minfree which only says 2048. dmesg also says Mar 3 16:36:06...

    Random reboot overnight

Thanks for your reply. It happened at around 13:46 on Feb. 22nd. I also thought it could be an automated monthly script, but I was told they are run on the first of the month only. The system has two drives, one SATA for the OS and one USB for storage. Here is the smartctl output: (USB, 1...

    Random reboot overnight

Hi. My FreeBSD 9.0-RELEASE server has had perfect uptime and stability since the day I installed it (about one month ago) but randomly rebooted itself this morning. I've never had to troubleshoot this before so I'm not sure how to find the cause. This was all I found in dmesg. Fatal trap 12...

    DNSCrypt

"DNSCrypt is a piece of lightweight software that everyone should use to boost online privacy and security. It works by encrypting all DNS traffic between the user and OpenDNS, preventing any spying, spoofing or man-in-the-middle attacks." It looks like the source was written with FreeBSD in...
