If you had tried automounting in gnome or even with KDE (sometimes) you would understand what issues you have with FreeBSD 9.0.
Edit:
I shall post messages after sometime, at office right now.
At least linux mounting with udev does work. Whereas automount in FreeBSD is just so unreliable. FreeBSD dmesg just throws all sorts of errors while automounting.
Why is providing a 'upto date' binary installing, updating server for base and userland and even for the ports so wrong?
If others (linux) can do it, and if FreeBSD does it too, isn't that a plus and increased functionality for FreeBSD?
I would like a prebuilt binary tool for kernel, userland apps and packages, which would be constantly updated so that you can jump from release to the latest(stable or current) without the pain of building everything.Whole system update consuming few days is not acceptable, however great the...
Is there any other binary upgrade application available for moving from Release to stable?
Or
Is building the world and kernel from sources, the only way to keep the base up to date?
1. I want to move from 9.0 Release to Stable. Can I do it with freebsd-update?
2. If I stayed at Stable will I be able to use freebsd-update if I get some patches or updates? I read the man page but I didn't quite understand well.
It normally doesn't take very long, but that depends on what installation source (broadband speed) you are using and your hardware specifications.
What do you mean by freeze?
Do you not get any output at all?
Are you able to switch to other terminals?
