    programming language Hare

Oof, supports only Linux/FreeBSD, no easy way to call Hare from C. Seems very very niche. Personally when I need C - I use Zig.

Why Javascript is a bomb waiting to explode.

And add a link to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supply_chain_attack It's not NPMs fault, it happens mostly to NPM lately because of popularity.

Why Javascript is a bomb waiting to explode.

So the answer is yes. PIP sucks balls, and you should manually validate packages, cache them and only pull them from your cache.

Why Javascript is a bomb waiting to explode.

Don't other languages have same problems in their package managers?

    Music…

The older I grow, the less I care about listening to good music. This song - it's peak of banality, it's so cliche, I've heard this song so many times in other pop songs, but I like it (as long as I can understand that this is so bad, if I were to start thinking this is good music, I would...

    Solved Forums firewalled out?

Network admins saw traffic to forums.freebsd.org - thought "what the hell is freebsd", opened the link - saw horns and went "some satanistic forum, can't have that" and blocked it?

FreeBSD and me united for ever

Not an english native speaker either, but "each to their own" sounds wrong, I'm pretty sure correct saying is "to each its own"

Does Desktop have a future on BSD?

Yes, competitive as a framework OS. And it's winning here over Linux. But not because of technical superiority, but because of license, let's be real. That's the only reason. Topic was about "desktop os" - and here freebsd is losing hard.

Does Desktop have a future on BSD?

It's easy - conspiracy theories. Like, I was on DistroWatch (I was not) and I... followed... you here (I did not) and actually teamed up with someone? Fruitcake now, fruitcake then, noticed and said now, noticed and said then. Easy peasy. :)) Edit: Holy shit, even called you paranoid back then...

Does Desktop have a future on BSD?

Anyways, I don't think FreeBSD has a future on the desktop or on the server. Every year it's becoming less supported and rarely do new things even bother remembering FreeBSD. FreeBSD is becoming a framework, a scaffold. You wouldn't write your own OS, so you take framework - FreeBSD - and build...

Other Modern programming languages are too cryptic?

So the answer is - Visual Studio is slow. Yea, I still rarely open that when I'm on support duty and have to support ancient systems written in VB - it is slow-ish. No idea what the hell it's doing. But typing (at least with 2019) doesn't lag even if intellisense is lagging. You said "slowness...

Does Desktop have a future on BSD?

No, you said "although the font rendering in Windows XP wasn't accurate, it was much preferred by users." - users preferred Windows XP rendering, not current "blurry" fonts.

Other Modern programming languages are too cryptic?

Well, yea, if you open codebases that are somehow tens of gigabytes of source files and don't fit into RAM and rely on... disk access... or using grep for code completion... then yes. Never has been my experience, always worked with codebases that are split into projects.

Does Desktop have a future on BSD?

Cool, I imagine the meeting where product managers were deciding font rendering: - So, uh, guys, we'll obviously will make fonts look good for 99.999999999% users on day to day monitors, and not KVM console that amounts to 0.000000001% of usage, right? - Duh... - Yea no shit... - ... yea?.. -...

Other Modern programming languages are too cryptic?

What IDE are you using that lags in typing to display intellisense? Also, on what hardware? Pentium 3?

Does Desktop have a future on BSD?

Yes, and now we have normal crystal clear font rendering, and windows xp looks like garbage. It was fine in 2004, but that dude says windows xp rendering is superb in 2021. Which is completely true if you're using 720p or 1080p displays, because operating systems discarded this baggage in order...

Does Desktop have a future on BSD?

Windows XP... font rendering... good? Are you still on 720p screen? Windows XP usability - like the taskbar, where order of open programs are random (well, in order in which you opened your apps) and not same order for years where you pin an app and it stays there - like since 7 in Windows and...

Taking the diversity mantra to the extreme

I achieved not thinking that every woman wants to be remarkable, like attention whore or instagram model. :) Also that if it doesn't involve genitals or physical strength - gender doesn't really matter for a lot of people. It's people who matter, not their gender. I don't think you can achieve...

Taking the diversity mantra to the extreme

"Never seen a woman who would want to be "unremarkable"." Nice. Every women wants to be a model? Anyways, I was talking about situation. And if you think gender matters in this profession, try typing on keyboard using your fingers instead of your genitals - way more WPM. :))

FreeBSD is a really good operating system

i386 is old, people will support it no problem. What people will not support - is the new hotness (or should I say coolness, because cpus run cold, heh) like ARM.
