Get traffic usage from VMs and NameVirtualHosts

Hi, We're looking to expand hosting. The issue is trying to find a way to get traffic data (mb/sec, total traffic) from users/domains. The sites hosted now don't use much bandwidth Most sites are configured to use same IP address for their web site(s). Mrtg might be part of an overall...

pf trying to block repeated failed pop3 or imap logins

We have tried before sending mail to abuse accounts. We have found it's useless. I know of a user who managed to have his real email user/pass exploited (perhaps from a key logger) and I happen to see in log/main/current login using his credentials from a strange ip address. Contacted that...

Trying to run virtualboxes as non root.

It took a bit of trial and error but I have it working as non root user. In /etc/rc.conf we have: vboxheadless_vm1_name="ivorytower" vboxheadless_vm1_user="vtbox" vboxheadless_vm2_name="Development" vboxheadless_vm2_user="vtbox" vboxheadless_vm2_flags="-n -m 12996 -o funk3" On a reboot, these...

pf trying to block repeated failed pop3 or imap logins

The problem I have seen in maillog is the attempts coming from same ip and trying hundreds of names@domain to login but only on pop3 (110) port. What I did so far to stop this is.. mail="{ 25, 143, 587, 993, 995 }" pass in on $ext_if proto tcp from any to any port $mail keep state . . . pass...

Do IP's have to be bound to NICs

Hi Ecazamir, We put on routeable IP's on VM's and they work just fine. Naturally, you cannot bind those IPs bound on the VM to the Host Server.

Do IP's have to be bound to NICs

Thank you all for replying :) I know if one is going to have a site on a host server, http://www.blah.com 1.2.3.3, the Server must have have 1.2.3.3 bound to the (outside) NIC. However if one is running something like VirtualBox, and lets say one install a FreeBSD guest and used bridging, then...

pf trying to block repeated failed pop3 or imap logins

Hi gkontos, Thank you for replying. So it seems you've got it right. Block pop3 connections if they are more than 15 in 5 seconds and if there are more than 20 connections from the same IP. However if you have clients that have 50 or more mail boxes, the max-src-conn 20 there will be problems...

How to configure a NIC on FreeBSD host so it's dedicated to VirtualBox VM

You can run pf firewall and use it to redirect IP traffic bound for your VMs. Since you have two nics, you might want to use one NIC as a private subnet like 192.168.1.0 (VM IP's) and then you have your other NIC answering requests from the Internet (Routeable addresses). So what you might have...

Do IP's have to be bound to NICs

Hi, Does an IP address have to bound to a NIC for apache virtualhosts? I.E. if a /24 is routed to your port on a switch, and from the switch to your NIC. Lets say for the purpose of understanding, your Server is given 192.168.20.1/24. And further you are going to use 192.168.20.50-100 for web...

pf trying to block repeated failed pop3 or imap logins

Hi, The firewall setup we have seems to work but perhaps a little better than was needed. As you see from the code below, $mail contains ports 25, 110, 143, 587, 993, 995. The goal is to stop massive pop3 and imap failed logins, since these logins are just scripts trying to make use of a...

iasl not found within ezjail-admin generated jail

We use ezjail-admin for setting up a jail. When trying to install VirtualBox, the install dies like mentioned above. You must have your jail(s) setup differently.

Keystrokes not showing on VNC terminal

Found a fix but its not truly solved ALT+Shift gets the keyboard numbers and letters working again. I just don't know what is causing the issue. But once the guest OS is installed on the FreeBSD Host, there is no need to use vnc.

Keystrokes not showing on VNC terminal

Hi, This is strange. I connect to a VNC Virtualbox running on FreeBSD 8.0-stable Host. The backspace, right/left and enter keys work normally. But any letters or numbers typed on the local keyboard, do not show up on the connected vnc terminal. Tried using two kinds of terminals and then...

Can't activate Network for CentOS 6 under FreeBSD 8.0 VirtualBox Host

Hi, Tried installing CentOS 6 x64. When it comes to network, on the install pages (anaconda), it cannot activate eth0. Tried (using phpvirtualbox) nat, bridged-adaptor and host-only network. Just wondering if anyone here running FreeBSD as the Host has any successful experience getting...

Trying to run virtualboxes as non root.

I have tried to get xboxwebserv to run as regular user. But then when it's started, cannot login to phpvirtualbox and cannot start any virtualbox. The regular user was put into vboxusers group. /etc/rc.conf has: vboxheadless_user="virtuser" vboxwebsrv_user="virtuser" When the following...

    Connecting to VirtualBox

Hi, I have ports/virtualbox-ose (VirtualBox-ose-4.0.12) installed on a Servaris 1U Rackmount Server running FreeBSD 8.0-stable. Installed it with the only options being VDE, VNC and Webservice checked. Installed without any issue. Continued to install phpvirtualbox-4.0.7 again, without any...
