    Nibiru 2012 aka Planeta X

I'm not afraid of the end of the world. Since amd64 it's no longer going to happen in 2038 ;)

    X11 on OpenBSD

Best place to get the ISO is from OpenBSD themselves. The ISO should be freely available for download (No need for shady third party sites.) Although it is great that you're buying a disc to support the project. OpenBSD has Xenocara which is based off of X.Org 7.3 (FreeBSD builds 7.4, more or...

the so called new op systems

This post entirely lacks merit. Most people on the forums will have an opinion of FreeBSD at least better than disdain. There maybe some viagra ad spambots and trolls registered, but it's not fair to consider their feelings.

Why does a chicken coop only have two doors? If it had four it'd be a chicken sedan Gets me every time. Coupe :D

    i have no sound

If cat /dev/sndstat returns installed devices, and you're still not getting sound, try alterign your mixer settings using the mixer command. I wasted away about 2 hours because I forgot that recently.

    sysadmin drink recipes

Myself and my two sisters do laugh hysterically at that one children's cough syrup commercial with the big bold letters on the bottoms, "DO NOT USE TO MAKE CHILD DROWSY." There are some TERRIBLE parents out there. I'd have to say my drink would be the Black Russian 1 part vodka 1 part...

    Any experience with BenQ monitors?

Horizontal Frequency 24 ~ 83 (KHz) 24 ~ 83 (KHz) Vertical Frequency 50 ~ 76 (Hz) 50 ~ 76 (Hz) That information is in the specifications tab of the same page you linked ;). If it wasn't, your best bet would be to find a downloadable PDF of the manual.

    Resolution issues/Nvidia card

You'd have to sift through a lot of useless information about Pokemon if you looked into my brain, I advise against it. Maybe try installing http://www.freshports.org/graphics/py-opengl/ ? Otherwise... Hunting down whatever port needs OpenGL support turned on probably won't be easy...

    Resolution issues/Nvidia card

When installing selecting all of the distributions isn't really neccessary. I usually just select "Kern Developer" without X. That way I get man pages, some docs, AND the src including kernel sources (this is important since I use csup to update my sources) When you're installing nvidia-drivers...

xorg -config: xorg command not found.

The command you're looking for is X -configure run as root to produce a xorg.conf file, edit it as you would a normal text file and move it to /etc/X11/xorg.conf

    Resolution issues/Nvidia card

The file should be in /boot/modules (I think) and it is the nvidia.ko file. KO files are just loadable kernel modules, kernel code that you may wish to run but either cannot be rolled into the kernel, or have not been. In my case, I load snd_hda.ko because I am an idiot and rolled my kernel with...

    Resolution issues/Nvidia card

Your problem with the nvidia driver could be related the the version of FreeBSD you're running. I know when I updated to 8-STABLE the drivers gave me crap because they were looking for a 8-RELEASE kernel. I only looked at a couple of things regarding nvidia and MTRR, but it sounds like the MTRR...

    burning with K3b

If you're feeling like having a lot of fun, I'd reccomend linking to area51 (KDE for FreeBSD's development repository) http://freebsd.kde.org/access.php The version of K3B in there is the 1.70 beta-1 version. From what I've read about it, there is no DVD support (some conflicting...

Building a quadruple head system, need some recommendations.

IIRC, if you're using the x11/nvidia-settings program to set your config files, it gives you the option to use TwinView or Xinerama (Xinerama turned off by Twinview if you choose that option.) I don't believe you can have 4 heads across 2 cards set up with Twinview (I've never tried though, my...

    Resolution issues/Nvidia card

I'm sorry, I meant x11/nvidia-settings. I looked through the Makefiles of both nvidia-settings and nvidia-xconfig and couldn't find anything i386 specific about them... but this could be related to the fact that there was not always a amd64 FreeBSD nvidia driver. Have you updated your ports...

Have you tried using the x11/nvidia-config tool from ports? Makes it wicked easy to set resolutions in X.

    7.2 -> 8.0 Quick Question

If you rebuild to 8.x with binaries, make sure you install the binaries for 8.x. If you were planning on csupping and making world (takes longer, but it's my prefered route) it's in your best interest to rebuild all of your installed ports tree from source as well. All installed binaries benefit...

Error on Make World for Diskless Operation

Looks to me like DESTDIR= is blank. Don't know if that should be /pxeroot and you've accidentally just nulled it. EDIT: Keep in mind that setenv and other methods of setting enviromental variables can be shell specific.

So... What's Happened Since FreeBSD 4.0?

IIRC, This was where SMP and the earlier removal of some of the giant locks were implemented and improved upon. Essentially performance was sacrificed in the interest of superiour performance in the future. When 7.x launched SMP and the GL removal were pretty damn great. Although the...

    Features in FreeBSD 12

Instead of installing X.Org by the module, we'll have to install each individual file. This will be made more manageable by the addition of the x11/xorggoodbyecruelmakeworld meta-port and will be updated sporadically due to port maintainers killing themselves after each major version revision.
