    FreeBSD 12 can't find '/boot/entropy'

SOLVED: Final verdict required flipping a few BIOS settings in order to get the image to boot properly. Worked just fine off the original USB stick I created on my Mac using dd. I tested again and both BIOS settings were required in order for it to boot properly: 1. SATA MODE = IDE (instead...

    FreeBSD 12 can't find '/boot/entropy'

Did another test to validate the ISO itself. Burned to an actual DVD (first time in years) with the exact same results. Something leads me to believe the issue is unique to how the image was created or structure of the bootable partition.

    FreeBSD 12 can't find '/boot/entropy'

Same issues here. Tried the boot only image and full blown DVD image. Tried burning them to multiple USB sticks on Windows 10 (using Rufus) which failed because it claimed the image had some unique compression or boot image, MacOS (Mojave) by converting from ISO -> IMG then DD to the usb...

    8.2 amd64 with Realtek 8188ce 802.11 b/g/n wireless

I did, in my last post I noted I downloaded the Windows XP 64 bit drivers (as I am running amd64 and the FreeBSD ndis documentation notes you must use 32-bit XP drivers for 32-bit FreeBSD and 64-bit XP drivers for 64-bit FreeBSD). The build process completes without errors and kldload <module>...

    8.2 amd64 with Realtek 8188ce 802.11 b/g/n wireless

Sure, basically since I am on amd64 I pulled the Windows XP 64 drivers and generated the ndis driver for them. No errors in the processing were encountered. I loaded the module and it crashed one time. I regenerated them a second time and loaded the module and nothing happened. Didnt see an...

    8.2 Fresh Install Hangs Immediately

In my experience usually related to some BIOS setting/conflict. When in doubt try disabling everything thats non-essential in the BIOS. Once you get it booting without conflicts you can slowly re-introduce one setting at a time to see what causes it to hang on boot. Thats usually the easiest...

Installing FreeBSD 8.2 amd64 on Thinkpad W520 hangs on atkbd0

I've noticed that toggling all other BIOS settings doesn't seem to have any impact. The only options are to disable USB UEFI which lets you use the onboard keyboard but then it looks like its disabling all USB ports as well. I tried to plug in an iPhone, USB key, USB HDD, etc and nothing. Not...

So I installed FreeBSD 8.2... now what? (noob questions)

I strongly recommend anyone who is interested in jumping into FreeBSD with little to no experience to buy a copy of Absolute FreeBSD (http://www.amazon.com/Absolute-FreeBSD-Complete-Guide-2nd/dp/1593271514) book or ebook available and give it a read from cover to cover. I've been on Windows, OS...

    8.2 amd64 with Realtek 8188ce 802.11 b/g/n wireless

Has anyone had any luck getting a Realtek 8188ce driver working on FreeBSD 8.2 amd64? (or at all for that matter) I know realtek is crap, I just bought a Thinkpad w520, nice laptop but skimped on the wifi (looks like I might have to upgrade it) thinking I would be able to get a working driver...

Installing FreeBSD 8.2 amd64 on Thinkpad W520 hangs on atkbd0

Sigh... sometimes after hours of staring at something and playing with numerous combination of settings you think you tried it all but I must have missed this one. Basically I ended up reloading default values for all BIOS settings then disabled ONLY USB UEFI. Thats it. Seems to be working...

Installing FreeBSD 8.2 amd64 on Thinkpad W520 hangs on atkbd0

Hello to all, I just bought a brand new Thinkpad W520 and was planning to run 8.2 amd64 on there. I would consider myself intermediate with linux/FreeBSD. About the issue I am hitting: 1. Installing from FreeBSD 8.2 amd64 CD 2. BIOS settings are dialed in to be most compatible and only...
