Registering machine name with a NetGear router

Netgear routers don't maintain DNS records when they hand out addresses via DHCP

    rtorrent 100% cpu

    For completeness, here is my .rtorrent.rc file: % grep -v '^#' .rtorrent.rc directory = /home/loop/Download session = /home/loop/Download/session schedule = watch_directory,5,5,load_start=/home/loop/Download/watch/*.torrent schedule = untied_directory,5,5,stop_untied= schedule =...

I have an rtorrent installation with XMLRPC and the download directory on ZFS, and I don't see this issue. Care to post your config file?

install cd not booting (Tecra A11-19[KM])

My Tecra P10 has the same issue, however I can confirm that PXE booting does work. I followed these instructions. What I have not done is actually completed the install and booted into FreeBSD from the hard drive of the laptop.

    Install over PXE

I'm installing 8.2 right now in fact, using this guide. Still needs NFS though.

Lagg failover is not working (at all)

The gratuitous arp is not a bad idea, might be good to put it to reyk@openbsd.org since he wrote the driver initially.

fan always near 4K rpm on thinkpad t42

This doesn't happen on my T42 - but then again the fan never stops under FreeBSD as it does under WinXP

    Laptop reboots every night

I had a similar problem, by fluke of luck I noticed that the ATAPI CD driver was crashing - still unsure as to why though (device dropping to a power-save state maybe?). Pulled it out of my kernel config (I now load it as a module) and no random reboots since.

    Recommended HDD for ZFS homeserver

There's a review on Toms Hardware comparing the Seagate Constellation ES and teh F3 EcoGreen drives. From a price/performance point of view the F3EG drives are hard to beat it would seem.

    Power saving ..

I've done that now - should I see any difference in the pciconf -lv -c output? none2@pci0:2:0:0: class=0x060700 card=0x05521014 chip=0xac46104c rev=0x01 hdr=0x02 vendor = 'Texas Instruments (TI)' device = 'PCCard CardBus Controller (PCI4520)' class = bridge...

Switch X between internal and external panels

Has anyone got a script that they use for switching the X display between the internal panel and an external monitor? Thinkpads have a dedicated key (usually Fn+F7) for this purpose, and while I know the ACPI code, I'm not sure how to actually perform the switch.

    Power saving ..

Is it possible to power down the PC Card slots on a Thinkpad (mine is a T42) # lspci -lv -c cbb0@pci0:2:0:0: class=0x060700 card=0x05521014 chip=0xac46104c rev=0x01 hdr=0x02 vendor = 'Texas Instruments (TI)' device = 'PCCard CardBus Controller (PCI4520)' class...

Yep, as you power on the laptop hit the F12 key and get into the BIOS settings.

    Firewall subnetting

Using the example in the PF book, int_if (192.0.2.0/25) and dmz_if (192.0.2.129/25) are in different subnets. So it doesn't matter if you have int_if of 10.0.0.1/8 and dmz_if at 172.16.0.1/12 or anything, as long as the interfaces are in separate subnets pf will work it out

    Firewall subnetting

It doesn't matter, the only difference is that there's 254 usable addresses in a /24 and 126 usable in a /25
