    Help with unbound_local resolution problem

Hi, I'm having a DNS problem with unbound after upgrading to FreeBSD 12-0 production. I'm using unbound_local as a caching DNS server. My resolve.conf file: # cat /etc/resolv.conf domain example.org nameserver 127.0.0.1 nameserver ::1 options edns0 The problem I see is jabberd2...

10.1 KVM guest can't startx (EE) Illegal instruction at address 0x4a40f0

The driver for vesa is installed. On the same KVM host, 10.0-Release works fine

10.1 KVM guest can't startx (EE) Illegal instruction at address 0x4a40f0

I'm trying to get X running on a 10.1 system running as a KVM guest. This is a brand new installation, though I did freebsd-update & pkg upgrade / pkg update to try to resolve. For KVM guest, is there a device I should use in lieu of vesa? With vesa I see: [ 43.904] (II) VESA(0): VESA VBE...

    Solved pf tables and nat

Thanks for the hint re pfctl -k <host> I found the issue. I had an unfiltered macro listing interfaces, and match on it early. pass quick on $unfiltered $int_if was in there  and shouldn't have been pilot error

    Solved pf tables and nat

In an attempt to keep grades from getting even worse than they are, I'm trying to get pf to keep a PC "focused" until homework is finished. I use tables to help with ssh brute force attacks and thought using tables would work for this problem. I can't get it to work. I'm curious if NAT has...

PF use overload tables and NAT

Thanks. IIRC, this is in case the IPv4 address changes. I "leveraged' this rule set initially from http://www.benzedrine.cx/pf.conf which doesn't have ($ext_if) in the nat rule either. So I left this nat rule as I found it. I was counting on the last matching rule wins, but reversing the...

PF use overload tables and NAT

I'm trying to figure out how to use overload to put certain abusive users in a table that I can use to make them less abusive. When NAT isn't involved, I think I have a handle on what to do since the IP address isn't changed. With NAT, all traffic on the internal network maps to the one external...

    Rear mic using snd_hda on amd64 9.x-STABLE amd64 Dell Optiplex 780

I am unable to use the rear panel microphone on 9.1-STABLE amd64. Using sysctl hw.snd.default_unit=1 lets the front headset work but turns off the front mic. Using sysctl hw.snd.default_unit=0 lets the front mic work with the rear speakers The machine is a Dell Optiplex 780 with...

    gpart label missing

This seems to be exactly what I am seeing... well, was. I've changed /etc/fstab to use labels now ;)

    GRUB won't boot FreeBSD 9.1

I just did this myself last night. If it helps, this is what I did to boot FreeBSD 9.1. MY disk had FreeBSD 9.0, amd64, BIOS booted, GPT (no mbr) disk system (shared with Fedora 17) and everything worked fine since 9.0-Release came out. Initially grub2 was from ports, but I needed Fedora for...

    gpart label missing

Thanks. Since /dev/ada0p1 etc. existed, I thought e.g. /dev/gpt/gprootfs should have as well and thought I set things up wrong.

    gpart label missing

Hi, I've moved FreeBSD 9.0 Release to a larger disk. The steps followed the disk setup document by wblock@ on a USB attached disk. Each gpart add used -l to provide a label. Once the partitions and ufs filesystems were created, I used dump/restore to copy the old (smaller) partitions to...

    pf stops nat suddenly

I took this to get going (longtime ipfw users, just now moving to pf) http://www.benzedrine.cx/pf.conf Other than adding set skip on lo0, the only difference was the interface names were changed. If I didn't see my subnet show up as IPv4 SA on $ext_if via tcpdump -i $ext_if, I would...

    pf stops nat suddenly

I noticed that IPv4 networking just suddenly stopped. Debugging with tcpdump on my external interface shows that pf NAT isn't taking place. My internal (non-routable) IPv4 addresses are being put on the wire to my ISP. Things were just fine. /etc/rc.d/pf stop followed by /etc/rc.d/pf start...

    Using Dump/Restore for Win7 NTFS C:

Whatever I try, the original disk is going to be removed from the system and kept in a safe place. If time (and free backup space) permit, I might try dd just to see what happens.

    Using Dump/Restore for Win7 NTFS C:

Just curious. Is it due to quality of ntfs support in FreeBSD? e.g. could this work on Linux, AIX etc. or is there something inherent in dump itself?

    Using Dump/Restore for Win7 NTFS C:

Is it possible to use dump and restore to backup and restore a Windows 7 C: drive (NTFS)? The ultimate goal is to backup Win7 on a MBR and restore to a GPT partition and use GRUB2 to boot it. The Windows based tool I've looked at so far want to destroy the GPT partition. I'd rather not...

Linksys WRT300N as WiFi Bridge only

This worked too. I left NAT enabled on the "WAN" port (nothing plugged in to WAN) and things work as I want.

Linksys WRT300N as WiFi Bridge only

Thanks to you both. I might look into the DD-WRT setup to use the WAN port as just another LAN port.
