[PC-BSD] Run linux binary files on PC-BSD

Well, afaik, linux_base-c6 requires: compat.linux.osrelease=2.6.18 and it's stated here, isnt' it? The default is, of course: compat.linux.osrelease=2.6.16 which is required for linux_base-f10. Now I'm really confused why you're surprised with '2.6.18' & linux_base-c6?

[PC-BSD] Run linux binary files on PC-BSD

I've similar requirement to run specific Linux binary (VueScan) and f10 is too old (missing GLIBC version etc. emulators/linux-base-c6 I managed to install the above port in my jail on 10.0 and no more 'missing GLIBC...', but, of course, there is missing gtk2 & co. x11/linux-c6-xorg-libs...

    ATI Non-free driver?

Good...I'm happy to have decent 2D performance - no time for gaming here. ;)

    ATI Non-free driver?

Huh...at least, it's possible to buy some cheap Nvidia cards and replace it. Using vesa is certainly not the option. For now I put Linuxmint on the netbook which is very simple install without need for almost any tweaking... Otoh, we're waiting for RC2 to put Free(PC)BSD on our desktop.

    ATI Non-free driver?

On my desktop I have HD 4670, so I assume that should work OK? Now I wonder, what is with HD 6320 on my netbook? Does it have 2D or nothing except VESA driver can be used on those machines (native resolution is 1366x768) in 9.1??

    LXDM port

I suggested it, but it's not enough user-friendly - no support for selecting language/locale, nor user-lists.

I posted to 'ports' lists first...still waiting for some reply.

    LXDM port

There is discussion on the PCBSD mailing list about default login manager for Xfce, LXDE and other lighter desktop environments and conclusion is that LXDM would be a nice/better fit than the present GDM. However, I wonder why there is no LXDM port available considering there is LXDE "meta"...

    ncurses and FreeBSD

Hello! I had similar problem yesterday when did update my system and, somehow, some of the ports pulled devel/ncurses. After that I experienced the strange problem in Weechat client (see picture - every 2nd line of text in the chat area became green. Now, I uninstalled devel/ncurses and...

    auto mounting in Openbox

This could be real life-saver here. :-) In the last few days I was reflecting what is the future of Xfce on FreeBSD desktop considering they're going to linux-only route. I can personally mount manually, but it's not very user-friendly for the rest of my family members. GNOME-3 is probably...

from one to mirror? Hello, I am new Free/PC-BSD user (just migrated from Linux after using it since '99) and your post saved me some more hours of troubleshooting while I was fighting with 9.0 PC-BSD snapshot install and decided to use just one HD. Now, I'm curious what would be the...

    How do you install grub2?

So do you have any experience with burg? My desktop still runs Archlinux and is booted via grub2 and I wonder whether there is some benefit in having bootloader like grub2/burg if I plan to run only Free(PC)BSD?

Finished: CALL FOR TESTERS Ralink wireless run(4) usb driver for FreeBSD

Hiya, I installed Free(PC)BCD on my laptop (latest 9.0 snapshot) and before migrating my desktop machine from Archlinux, I need to make my wifi card working.. By looking and this thread and this one, I wonder which driver might be more appropriate for my ID 07d1:3c16 D-Link System DWA-125...

Is it possible cinelerra port to FreeBSD?

Thanks, but I was thinking more about Cinelerra-specific instructions considering that it's not possible to build it statically and application needs lot of libs. :\

    Openshot

 Yeah, it needs >=2.56, iirc from my Linux install...It does not matter. My desktop is still running Archlinux but I'm investigating if migration to Free(PC)BSD would provide me with all the required tools. ;) I can wait, no problem. Thank you very much for working on it!!!
