amd64, pypanel, bad error (core dumped)

StaticPhilly, If your still looking for a panel, try Tint2. I have just started using it and think its a decent replacement for PyPanel. You can find in the ports, located in /usr/ports/x11/tint

amd64, pypanel, bad error (core dumped)

I have seen this on many AMD64 systems for almost a year now, running FreeBSD and Linux... Its sad to say, but pypanel is a dead project as far as I know.

    Power consumption

I use a device called Kill-A-Watt... Its a great device. Highly recommended for tracking down wasted energy and tracking energy usage. At the moment my desktop is running at a nice and cool 111 watts (), before installing 8-Rel it was consuming much more power :) A software solution would...

    FreeBSD and Ham Radio

I am a ham (KG6---)... Maybe you can tell from my user name. Its sad to say but I have not incorporated freebsd with my station yet. I wish I could run my IRLP node with FREEBSD, but for now I use Ubuntu Server...

    Which is your Favourite Linux?

I jumped around for a long time, since the later 90's using Red Hat, Mandrake, Suse etc. I eventually came to the conclusion that less is more, and have avoided the big distributions ever since. I also found that Gentoo was more trouble than it was worth so ArchLinux was the best of both worlds...

    OpenSolaris: Your Opinions

I liked 2009.06 but I really wish it had better support for USB printers... only a few models are supported. And I am not just referring to the limitations of CUPS having a few drivers, I mean the hardware is not recognized... :(

Is HAL more trouble than it's worth?

    Maybe I should upgrade from 7.2-RELEASE to 7.2-STABLE ;)

Is HAL more trouble than it's worth?

Ok, I think I solved this problem... Maybe this will work for you as well, just remove the thunar-volman-plugin. As far as i can tell everything is working well without it, and the multiple new thunar windows that were opening have stopped occurring on initial mounting of a storage device.

    UVC webcam driver?

Thanks for the information Oko, thats about what I expected to hear... I would rather learn/run FreeBSD without webcam support than switch back to linux. With that being said, I can live without a camera for now.

    UVC webcam driver?

I have done a little searching about getting a USB webcam working on FreeBSD and it seems that there is no UVC driver. Does anyone know of a project to get this working? I did read that both OpenBSD and NetBSD have solutions for webcams. Forgive my ignorance of such things, but is it difficult...

    mounting a large fat32 drive

Thanks for the advice vermaden and sirdice, you have given me new options to experiment with. I will follow up on this thread if I make any progress.

    mounting a large fat32 drive

Thank you Vermaden, but I am already aware of the mount command for large fat32 drives. What I am trying to accomplish is to have Dolphin, Nautilus, or Thunar allow me to mount the drive as I would in linux... by mounting it in the file manager. I realize that I can mount it in a terminal and...

    mounting a large fat32 drive

Another idea I was thinking about is formatting the drive to a different file system. Does anyone have any experience sharing a drive between BSD and Linux?

    mounting a large fat32 drive

At the moment I run KDE4, but I also like to use Openbox with thunar from time to time.

    mounting a large fat32 drive

I have a 250Gb external USB hard drive formatted in fat32 and would like to use it with my FreeBSD desktop system. I understand that because of the size of the partition and the limitations of the default kernel, mounting such a partition requires a flag to mount "large partitions". Mounting in...

Shutdown instead of reboot on halt?

I have just recently seen a fresh install of 7.1 do this. Never happened before though... I just hit the power switch, but every once in a while my computer will turn its self back on, after about 20 minutes of being off. Checked the bios and I can't figure out what is going on...
