As the author of FuryBSD the LiveCD builder I wanted to come back here at some point and give an update. From my point of view I made a LiveCD builder which automated the task of booting to a desktop environment. I don’t know any programming language but shell scripting so I took it as far as...
I worked with the author of dsbdriverd from the NomadBSD project to make iwn work out of box already in the most recent image on github. With another update soon I should have iwm working with FreeBSD's out of box tool devmatch. Then there will be mechanisms in place to load all of the correct...
All of the tools being developed are being turned into ports that can be brought into FreeBSD.
The safer approach would be to provide the tools as individual ports. Then create a single port that installs a script to that can be run to bootstrap much like desktop installer. Otherwise you can...
We might need some extra modules for SIM card. I can confirm in the near future. Also networking is not setup automatically but can be enabled using bsdconfig.
Not yet. To the best of my knowledge this still requires a patch to ports with 12.1 to use libinput properly. I have been looking at it, and will poke the right people for updates once I can confirm the patches work. I want to avoid committing anything for that to FuryBSD until it's official...
Maybe just another week or so for the PXE support. It's not hard to do as I've already done it elsewhere. Just need to find a little time to get it added, pushed.
Hi guys I'm Joe Maloney in case you didn't already know. This is soley a community project. All costs for this are coming out of my pocket, all the development is coming only out of my free time, and I want to keep it that way. I do work with Eric very closely. I helped write the later...
I was mainly just linking that to point out that it should be possible to add such functionality to the existing rc system, and providing a configuration example of what it looks like for OpenRC. I've also struggled with getting iscsi related services to start in the correct order after and...
Removing gnome-settings-daemon from session file as mentioned earlier in this thread works for me to make gnome-shell work. This only affects one system I have that uses an nvidia graphics card. I have tried 11.1-RELEASE. The scfb driver works fine with this same hardware. It crashes if...
FreeBSD works okay for some use cases to run Linux based desktops. It's more compatible than the other BSD's but less it is less compatible than Linux, and can lag behind a little. It's easy enough to get going, and you get ZFS along with jails. There are benefits, and it can be more...
I did something similar once but I piped sh /etc/rc to null, disabled getty. So i went from splash to black screen to desktop. I wish I could figure out how to display splash during rc.
Pre-built binaries for Atom, and the standalone electron can be found here on the releases page. It works just to extract the compiled release, and run it on CURRENT for AMD64.

If its a Linux guest you can also use xdmcp. Then something like X -query ip can forward the entire desktop. Be aware sound emulation does not work yet. I poked for sound emulation to be merged in the review a few weeks ago, and someone is working on adding capsicum support again to fix it in...
Hahah. QT is ugly. At the moment I am using Gnome to get by but its crappy old Linux software right? Its like we get badly working versions of major DEs years later. Like you I am stuck with dbus because of certain apps but I would like not to be forever because I would like to not be tied...
