    FreeBSD 13.1-RELEASE i386 and ZFS

This router also has 4x10GbE ports along with 8x1GbE ports and is running OPNsense. I went with 64GB because I have a tendency to max things out. Overkill? Yes. Will it work for the next 10-15 years? Yes. As for the Compaq ML370G1, this is operating a Synchronet BBS, so the Supermicro system...

That.. looks familiar.. I'm going to keep an eye on that thread.

    FreeBSD 13.1-RELEASE i386 and ZFS

It's not a memory problem, or I'd be running out of memory in 12.3-RELEASE as well. This only happens with 13.1-RELEASE as far as I can tell. As for the ML370, it has a dual P3 @1GHz, 3GB of RAM, 6x300GB of storage (3x HW R5 w/SW stripe to bond them [limitation of controller]) and it's running a...

    FreeBSD 13.1-RELEASE i386 and ZFS

I have noticed that the ZFS service on FreeBSD 13.1-RELEASE crashes for some reason. When I did a fresh install on a system with ~4GB of RAM on a i386 platform (dual P3), the install went fine. But when I rebooted the system I noticed none of my other datasets would mount. After looking at the...

Issues installing 12.3-RELEASE on Sparc64 with ZFS

Okay. I think I bumped into something that is different between 12.2-RELEASE and 12.3-RELEASE: mountroot: waiting for device /dev/iso9660/12_2_RELEASE_SPARC64_CD... Starting file system checks: Mounting local filesystems:. ELF ldconfig path: /lib /usr/lib /usr/lib/compat random: unblocking...

Issues installing 12.3-RELEASE on Sparc64 with ZFS

Nope. It still gives me the same issue. # kldload opensolaris.ko # kldload zfs.ko link_elf: symbol zfs_kmem_alloc undefined kldload: can't load zfs.ko: No such file or directory Not sure what's going on, but this is booting from the CD for a clean installation.

Issues installing 12.3-RELEASE on Sparc64 with ZFS

I've been having issues trying to get FreeBSD 12.3-RELEASE to install on any of my Sunfire V100's. Whenever I enter "kldload zfs", it pops up with "link_elf: symbol zfs_kmem_alloc undefined". FreeBSD 12.2-RELEASE runs just fine. Any ideas?

Trying to build a LANCache server

I'm currently trying to build a LAN Cache server from a few scripts from https://github.com/bntjah/lancache and been bumping my head on unbound spitting out "Connection Refused for /var/run/local_unbound.ctl". So, I'm asking around for a more proper way on how to implement this on a FreeBSD 12.1...

    FreeBSD 12.0-RELEASE Now Available

Due to the size of the base system of FreeBSD 12.0, the disc1.iso images for amd64 and i386 do not fit onto a 700 MB CD-ROM. As of FreeBSD 12.0-RELEASE, however, disc1.iso for these architectures can be written to a flash drive, or to a DVD. Then.. what's the point of having a disc1 if you can...

    Issues building texinfo-6.5 on Sparc64

I have been trying to get texinfo-6.5 to compile on my old SunFire V100. Unfortunately, it keeps popping up with this: chmod a+x pod2texi gmake[6]: Leaving directory '/tmp/work/usr/ports/print/texinfo/work/texinfo-6.5/Pod-Simple-Texinfo' Making all in texindex gmake[6]: Entering directory...

    FreeBSD 12.0-RELEASE Now Available

I just got done installing it on my SunFire V100's using a custom UFS+ZFS script (I like my mounts the same as a standard x86/64 install, yay OCD). Took me a few days, but I figured it out. I'll post it in the unsupported area soon. /boot is UFS (80MB UFS partition) and the rest is ZFS. It's...

Haven't tried it on a Sun Ultra 45, but am currently running 11-STABLE on (5) Sun SunFire V100's. They like it better than Gentoo Linux.

    Release schedule for FreeBSD 11.3-RELEASE

You can always use 11.2-RELEASE and use freebsd-update, unless you're running it on a non-x86 or non-amd64 system. I have to run 11-STABLE on a few systems due to them being sparc64, ppc, or ppc64-based.

    zfsboot script on Sparc64?

I noticed that the only way to get an automatic install of FreeBSD on Sparc64 is via UFS, yet i386/amd64 have a ZFS option. Is there a way to port this over to the sparc64 platform? Currently, you have to enter a ton of commands to get ZFS on Sparc64. This would make life a little easier.

FreeBSD 10.0-RELEASE: Can not boot a x86 PAE kernel

Bringing up an old thread. Looks like it does still exist in FreeBSD 11.0-RELEASE as well. It runs fine with 16GB (32GB / 2 for mirroring) and 24GB (24GB without mirroring). As soon as I bump it up to 28GB or 32GB, it faults. This is the same HP ProLiant DL580G2 with 4x Intel Xeon 3.0/512K/4M...

    Why do people use FreeBSD?

Ahh.. I've been using FreeBSD since 3.1. It started when I was in the Navy back in 1998. They put me in charge of the ships library computer network, which consisted of 2x Pentium 166MHz systems and a crashed NT4 server. They didn't have the software, nor could not find the license keys to...

    FreeBSD 8.1 and 8.3 kernels

Well, I think I found a solution. I was examining the bootlog and saw that there seems to be some changes in the /usr/src/sys/x86/x86/nexus.c file. So, I went to look and found that if I deleted the smap chunk, the IP380 boots to FreeBSD 10.1 just fine. The chunks I deleted are in italicized...
