    org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.PermissionDeniedByPolic y

If you use kdm as your login manager, you shouldn't have to mess with PolicyKit.conf. Just make sure you have the following lines in /etc/rc.conf: dbus_enable="YES" hald_enable="YES" kdm4_enable="YES" You should reboot for good measure after this.

    KDE 4 Black Screen

If you are still having trouble with the new driver, I would suggest using ports-mgmt/portdowngrade to downgrade the version of the port in the ports tree. This will only revert the ports tree, not the already installed package. After you have done this you will have to force a rebuild of the...

    KDE 4 Black Screen

I am having similar issues with version 295.40 of the NVidia driver. It will work for a short time and then the screen will turn black and system will become unresponsive. I have reverted to the previous version and everything is fine now. This doesn't seem to be FreeBSD specific. I did a...

    i got a problem!

Sometimes this happens if a fetch of the distfile was previously interrupted. Try this: # cd /usr/ports/sysutils/cdrtools && make distclean && make install clean

    m4 1.4.13 compile error

As you may know, FreeBSD 5.x is EOL so there is no official support for it (even in ports) and may have security concerns. From what I can tell, this is due to an outdated 'makeinfo' program. In the port that supported 5.x, the solution was to use the newer 'makeinfo' from ports. Here is...

    Tab view in kpdf ?

KPDF is part of KDE 3.x which will not be seeing new features like this. KDE 4.x uses Okular as the PDF viewer, but does not have tabs either. There is already a feature request for this, but the lead developer doesn't seem real enthusiastic about implementing this. As a sort of...

    kde4 errors on install (FreeBSD8)

Is your ports tree up to date? This is caused by the new usb stack in -CURRENT. The latest version of the kdebase4 port has patches for -CURRENT as of June 15, 2009.

    KDE 4.2.3 build stals out...

Are you using FreeBSD 7.2? It could be caused by the errata in fork(2). See here: http://security.freebsd.org/advisories/FreeBSD-EN-09:04.fork.asc I have had KDE 4.x builds lockup on me because of this and it has caused Kontact and Konqueror processes to turn into zombie processes very...

IMO, Wine with the Windows version of Firefox is the best way to go for Flash support right now. It is pretty stable and it is easy to update. I have have Wine 1.1.12/Firefox 3.0.5/Flash 10 installed. I set Wine to run in Windows XP mode.

slow system boot, module loading with SATA hard drives

Is this SATA drive only a problem at boot time or is it slow during normal system usage as well?

slow system boot, module loading with SATA hard drives

It looks like the drive is being detected as SATA150 and the SATA controller is being detected. I would suggest first trying to set the jumper on the drive limiting it to SATA150 since that is all your motherboard can support. Since it appears that you have an optical drive connected to the...

slow system boot, module loading with SATA hard drives

Could you provide a dmesg output with the SATA drive installed? What is the brand and model of your motherboard, SATA controller, and hard drive? It could be that your SATA controller is not being recognized and the driver is using a fallback option which would cause the drive to run at a...

Sending FreeBSD problem reports through KMail

Sending FreeBSD Problem Reports Through KMail If you use KMail, you may wish to send your problem reports from send-pr(1) through KMail instead of another mail program. The advantage of this is you already have KMail setup for your outgoing mail, so there is no need to setup another mail...
