    Emacs 24.2 , Gedit-2.30.4 and dbus issue

There shouldn't be any need to launch Emacs as root. If you need to edit a file with root permissions -- for example, hosts.allow, then: C-x C-f /su::/etc/hosts.allow

    Unix in a keyboard-less age

Until you have a computer that can interpret an ambiguously-worded instruction with the same accuracy as the average human, we're not even close to having an interface that can match a keyboard for efficiency. In other words, we're talking Star Trek-esque advanced AI:

    Opera 12.00 released

For me, Opera 12.10 + 12.11 were both crashing when I attempted to paste an address (or, presumably, any other kind of string) into the URL bar. Switching from the GTK toolkit to the X11 toolkit resolved that crash, but I was still encountering crashes on certain sites, such as Xbox.com. I put...

XFCE with Slim produces dbus errors....

You can get around this problem in another way by specifying the window manager you want to launch from slim with: $ exec dbus-launch --exit-with-session my_window_manager in .xinitrc.

Any Way to Easily Install Current Xulrunner Runtime?

This is really great news :D I'm using PCBSD now, and relying mostly upon PBI, so it will probably be quite some time before the changes trickle down to me. Still, it's good to know things are moving.

That's fantastic news. Hopefully it doesn't take long for CDE to make it into the ports tree.

    Window Manager Recommendations

^ Remember, the OP is looking for a window-manager that is similar to openwin. As for you, UnixGod, which text editor do you use? If you use Emacs, I'd recommend giving x11-wm/ratpoison or x11-wm/stumpwm a try.

    Window Manager Recommendations

FVWM2 is great, but requires a lot of fairly elaborate customization on the user's part. Olvwm used to be in the ports tree, but it was deprecated or dropped, so I think the next closest for you might be x11-wm/ctwm.

    Which emacs should I install?

When are libraries in the ports tree going to be built against Emacs-24 instead of 23? After all, 24 is the current stable version.

    Edit a directory

It's sorta read-only. By default, Emacs' dired allows the user to carry out file/directory operations (move, copy, delete, etc.), but you have to activated wdired mode to edit the directory in the same way you'd edit a text file -- although even then, you can only operate on the filenames, and...

    Emacs Screencast Series: "Hack Emacs"

The Youtube user rpdillon has a really useful series of videos on Emacs available here. He explains everything in a very clear, easily digestible manner; starting with the basics, but also delves into more advanced topics, such as customizing Emacs with your own Elisp code. If you're an...

In that case, I think it's something to do with the way that the WMs in question are resizing the terminals. Try the aforementioned rxvt-unicode (which, apparently, features more sophisticated resizing than rxvt) and see if that helps. ===========
