I need help recovering my root password. Problem is I did a root on ZFS install and the normal method I know (single user boot, mount -u, mount -a and passwd) isn't working.
I get a passwd: pam_chauthtok( ): error in service module error message.
I did some searching but couldn't find...

Actually I'm having a boot problem
I dualboot win7 and freebsd (zfs on root) on the same hdd and when I installed the freebsd bootloader windows 7 simply wouldn't load anymore, then I reinstalled win7 bootloader, which gives me option to boot freebsd but I get error...
I got a working bootable usb flash drive working by following the tutorial on how to install zfs to root, except instead of installing it on ad0 (the harddist) i installed it on da0 (the flashdrive)
It works, but since its only 8gb drive i only have 2gb swap (dunno if this will cause me trouble...
Just wanted to add that just like Volatiloid flash wasn't working for me when i had linproc mounted on /usr/compat/linux/proc
When I saw what he said and changed it to /compat/linux/proc it started working
Running 8.0 release amd64
I found what I did wrong
I forgot to gpart create ad0s1
I dunno why it shows ad0s1 on gpart list ad0 before you gpart create it but it did and that got me confused

I haven't tried to mess with UFS
All I did was follow this tutorial http://wiki.freebsd.org/RootOnZFS/ZFSBootPartition
There's no reason it shouldn't work
