Have you tried changing the
ifconfig_wlan0="ssid linksys wepmode on weptxkey 1 wepkey ********** DHCP"
to
ifconfig_wlan0="ssid linksys wepmode on weptxkey 0 wepkey ********** DHCP"
try replacing
network={
ssid="linksys"
key mgmt=NONE
wep_key1=**********
wep_tx_keyidx=1
}
with network={
ssid="linksys"
key mgmt=NONE
wep_key0=**********
wep_tx_keyidx=0
}

wlan_amrr_load="YES"
firmware_load="YES"

Thanks guys! :)
I managed to find most of the ports I installed but not all of them. I will try reinstalling the ones that I didn't.
This thread can be locked now
edit= Found them all, the port system does rock haha :D.
I have "make install clean" some ports.
They compiled and installed without any errors but now I can't find where my packages have installed to.
How can I find this out?
I went into /var/db/pkg but i didn't find anything useful there.
Sorry about this, i am a beginner to BSD.
Atheros AR9285 support
Does this wireless card work with freebsd 8 straight out of the box?
Has the driver been committed to freebsd 8?
I want to install freebsd on my laptop today, previous installations did not support it so I had to go back to linux :(.
I hope the problem is fixed now...
I am running pc-bsd 8 rc whcih I assume is based on freebsd 8.
Not sure about the source.
to get the patch I did this
fetch http://people.freebsd.org/~rpaulo/ar9285_stable_8.diff
cd /usr/src
patch < /place/where/diff/file/is/stored
I think that the patch is dodgy. I think I will need to find...
When I run "make buildkernel KERNCONF=MYKERNEL" everything goes well until after a while but then I get a error message saying
c/sys/dev/ath -I/usr/src/sys/dev/ath/ath_hal
cc1: warnings being treated as errors...
edit: to install the kernel all I have to do is this?
On (64bit)
# cp /PCBSD/conf/PCBSD.amd64 sys/amd64/conf/PCBSD
# make buildkernel installkernel KERNCONF=PCBSD
note that I use pcbsd but since It is freebsd with gui i figured that i would be better off posting on freebsd forums since i can...
I had a look at that thread and the links and I am confused on what to do once i click on them

I want to apply this patch but I am not sure how.
http://people.freebsd.org/~rpaulo/ar9285_stable_8.diff
How would I apply this?
And How do I install network manager or wicd since doing
pkg_add wicd doesn't seem to work.
acpiconf -i 0 doesn't seem to work (right now I am still using Linux)
I guess I will wait until the patch has been applied. Is there a way for me to know what the patch has been applied?
I am planning on switching to FreeBSD but I am not sure about hardware since my I run into a lot of problems with the PC-BSD installation. I am asking now before it is not too late after I erase my current OS (which is Arch Linux)
