Desktop Menu for Touchscreen

I am looking for a desktop menu program that would launch Xorg applications. Something with big buttons for touchscreen use.

Any suggestions. I have tried xmenu but it is not what I want.

x11/xmenu

There is also x11/9menu in ports and x11/dmenu along with many more.

I want 4 big buttons on screen on X11 bootup. Centered. Icons optional.

I have looked at "Docks" too and Panels but I am at a loss. Cairo-dock looks nice but not what I want.

I need a launcher for an OpenBox appliance. I want to choose between Mapping, Music and Browser applications.

Good Approach. I am using Openbox so it does not do .desktop files by default. They can be added.

I also thought about using four "Desktops" but I dislike that approach. Keybinding with F* keys is popular but useless on touchscreen.

I am thinking I need to write my own launcher so I fired up Gnome-Builder and then it dawned on me... That is too heavy.

xdialog

I am going to see where this ends up. Regular dialog is very configurable so I will give xdialog a try.
ncurses is approachable. I have written small TUI applications.
x11/xdialog

Open to ANY suggestions.

Did you try plank?

are you making a FreeBSD phone?
No a automobile entertainment touchscreen computer. Similar to a kiosk mode. A carputer.

I am trying to stay with toolkits included with my base system. So GTK is ok but QT would be overkill.

Xdialog can only do two buttons without a patching. Also Xdialog in ports is old and from abandoned tree. Newer version needs porting.
Newer version 2.7 from different author:

The Pie method looks OK but I prefer 2X2 squared Buttons. Four buttons top to bottom OK too. Must be centered.

I have two platforms that I am testing. JLT6012 Touchscreen AIO and Phoenix Contact AIO Touchscreen.
One seems too small at 12" and the other too big for auto interior.
I might fall back on Arm board and touchscreen ELO monitor.
I have gone overboard on touchscreens.
Plannar 22" monitor from Kodak kiosk is the nicest one I have. Has high dpi I would guess. But uses 120VAC. For pluses it has HDMI,VGA and DP.
Skylake era Advantech is the best rugged touchscreen AIO I have but it uses 24VDC and that makes more work.

I am also mentally battling this question.
16X9 or 4:3 Aspect ratio.

Is widescreen really best for mapping application (primary intended use).
Perhaps turn widescreen upright....
