Study shock! AI hinders productivity and makes working worse
Management drank the Kool Aid but staff can't cope with new demands
"What do you mean you can't do it in half the time?! We've given you cogptpilotchatbardbot..."
The reality is that these AI tools are based on previous work by others. Many are no more than a search tool. Take that for what it's worth but I find most of the results from online AI stuff returns wrong or obvious results which have been of no value to me.
Pattern search on databases, to be correct, and reconstructing patterns by found patterns."there is no AI at all.." , is only a databatase
AI tools are based on previous work by others.
To me it's no more than a scaled matchbox learning machine invented by Martin Gardner in his book "The unexpected hanging and other mathematical diversions" which I had read when was a middle-school student.I allways say "there is no AI at all.." , is only a databatase(more complex..but basically)
That's quite a philosophical point, since the machines are human made.because of human stupidity and not for the "machines"
AI produces mostly blabla.about this thread. Blah.
And there are court rulings that make companies cash in the things their online AI promised to customers. It not only lowers productivity but also costs extra money on that front.Until then I stay with the topics head-line:
"AI lowers productivity"
'cause that's exactly what it does.
Even in the face of regulations...Which company cares about quality, when costs can be reduced dramatically?
Especially as long as there are no regulations.
That is IMHO the lever to use. Only total idiots would drive things forward that'll kill their job. Or idealists.I read several articles about especially middle and higher management will suffer.
Here we go again... ?Boing
Agree. LLMs, as language machines, function excellently as tools for refining the phrasing of given content. Of course, they do not create new content or use reasoning. It's just a language machine, literally - not a knowledge machine, not a reasoning machine, not an understanding machine. It wasn't trained to do any of these things except language processing. Whatever it produces that resembles knowledge, reasoning or understanding, is merely a collateral of language structure.
Garbage in Garbage outThe reality is that these AI tools are based on previous work by others. Many are no more than a search tool. Take that for what it's worth but I find most of the results from online AI stuff returns wrong or obvious results which have been of no value to me.
Recently played with Claude AI, gave it a simple C program (a real one, that I wrote for a particular purpose) asking to find issues and improve. It did some reasonable additions for extra error checking, but changed all three different exit codes in different parts to "1"! Why??I call BS!
