I migrated to Xfce from Gnome on Gentoo. Then, I migrated from Gentoo to FreeBSD and haven't looked back!

Here's my screenshot, now it's your turn!

ninjaslim, your xfce setup looks nice. Is that font you're using fixed-width? I'd love to know what it is. :)

But what is about bar's font?

aragon
November 27th, 2008, 15:21
I could swear I've seen it somewhere before, but can't put my finger on it. It does look like it's fixed-width too which might make it easier to find...

It's aquafont.

My current set up. Nothing spectacular, just trying to figure out what all I can do. Dual monitors but they are set up as separate as separate X screens.

Okay, here's what my desktop looks like thanks to XFCE 4, wbar and a custom OSX-like theme (also note the magnifying effect at the bottom):

http://drop.io/rh9edhi/asset/desktop-jpg

BTW, you too could get such setup via VirtualBSD! ;-)
(See http://forums.freebsd.org/showthread.php?t=1756 for the details)

And yes, you could either do it yourself or get it "for free" with VirtualBSD for VMware (look into the Off-Topic forum for the details)! :e

I used xfce sometime back. but these days alternate between fluxbox and tiling wm's. Here is one of my old screens of one my machines running Lunar Linux. On my FreeBSD laptop, its Fluxbox or tiling, nothing more, nothing less!

Thanks vermaden. The app font in screen 1 is the good old Liberation Sans. On the second screen it must be SegoeUI Semibold.

I can't see any difference between Xfce4 on FreeBSD and OpenBSD. Recently I have moved from FreeBSD to OpenBSD on my desktop because of hardware troubles. I just copied my /usr/home directory to new system, so my FreeBSD desktop looked almost the same.

I'm sorry if my screenshot is offtopic. I thought it's ok.

GQView hasn't been updated since 2006 and seems to be dead.
Geeqie was forked from it. It's still alpha, but according to its homepage (http://geeqie.sourceforge.net/), a release is close. They've been applying patches that never made it onto GQView and adding new features.

I used to have a pretty cluttered desktop, but I've managed to pare down quite a bit. Its not obvious from the screenshot but I use Envy Code R as my system font, which is a very clean mono-spaced font.
