those little popups/tool tip things

i just installed gnome 2.26 and im pretty damn happy with it, but theres one thing that annoys the crap out of me. every time you roll the mouse over something, a little popup box comes up and gives you a description of what you rolled over... what to do with it, etc.
is there any way to get rid of these things?

Direct yourself via Applications | System tools | Configuration editor...

Go to "/apps/panel/global/" tooltips_enabled ;)

cool that took care of half the problem. :-D
when i roll over the desktop pager or the "show desktop" icon, theres still a little popup telling me "click to switch to desktop x".
ill look around some more in the config editor and see if i can get rid of it.
