I installed KDE 4.1 via packages when they were first available. Got a nice KDE4 desktop up and running pretty quickly. The upgrade to 4.2 was a bit of a pain, requiring manual uninstall / install process.
KDE 4.2 packages won't be available, most likely, until 7.2 has been released.

Ah! I tried pkg_add -r kde4.watever and got stuck. First it conflicted with almost all the libraries of kde3.5 and then it couldn't find many packages.
