The links created by using port tags point to the port's page on freshports.org. While I find freshports.org to be a useful site, I would prefer the link to go to the port's page on freebsd.org. For example, multimedia/quvi would instead point to http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/ports.cgi?query=quvi&stype=name. The main reason for my preference is the banner ads on freshports.org. Again, I have no problem with the ads, but it seems to contradict the commercialization-free nature of FreeBSD when a page under freebsd.org links to a page with banner ads. How many of us are going to click on ads for "avs video converters" anyway?

...I have no problem with the ads...

Is there some advantage to the freshports.org page versus the freebsd.org page?

There's much more end-user information on the freshports.org page (including installation commands that may serve inexperienced port/package installers well).

Ok, thanks for responding. I'll have to take a closer look at freshports.
