speaking about low-weight desktops, has rxvt-unicode always needed gtk? seems like a bit much to install just for a simple transparent xterm?

libafterimage pulls in gtk probably. urxvt has libafterimage dependency by default. So if you need transparency and background image support, it is essential.
If transparency alone is your intention, go for aterm. Features are limited, compared to urxvt.

well yes transparency is the only reason otherwise I would have stayed with xterm, but I also like urxvt and now when its installed I will keep it. i gues sooner or later I will install something that needs gtk anyway :-) I was just surprised because what I remember from when I installed it like a year ago the compile process was much faster, but I can be mistaken. :e
