For situations like that troll post that appeared under general, it seems a "report to moderator" link would be nice at the thread level so people could simply click that rather than exacerbate the problem by replying. I've found people will take the bait a bit less frequently if they can simply report the useless post and move on. It gives them an active role when their blood pressure starts to go up.
