Hi all.

After much frustration I completely reloaded Freebsd 8.1 from scratch via CD and then immediately tried to install KDE4 from the ports collection.

I installed the ports in this order...

kde4
kdebase4
kdebase4-runtime
kdebase4-workspace
kdelibs4

All of these installed without errors

I then did startkde4

and got

unable to start kstartupconfig4 error 127

I have searched the archives in this forum and found no matching thread so ca someone please point me towards a solution?

@d_mon

I did exactly what you suggested including installing kdm.

At KDE startup I get a KDE background with a picture of a hard drive and that's all.

Can you point me to what log files I should be looking at to try and understand what is going wrong?

thanks
