I compiled and installed KDE 4.4.5 from ports. KDe starts but akonadi server can not register with dbus. Any suggestions how to make it work?

HALD and DBUS are running. My desktop is KDE 3.5.10. I decided to give KDE 4.4.5 a try but Akonadi fails to register with DBUS while Mepomuk can. MySQL sever is flaky, sometis fails to start but on a sceond try it starts. The only problem is akonadi dbus issue.

Have you tried the External MySQL Server settings? I have no luck with the default but if I switch to external everything runs fine.

I had to create the directory /var/db/mysql, make that writable for anyone who uses KDE (in my case only me, so I just chown'ed it).
Then deleted ~/.local/share/akonadi and ~/.config/akonadi, restarted KDE and no more errors. Of course I did have to re-enter my calendar resources from KDE 4.4 They were no longer shown, even though their contents were still intact.
Also note I was out of KDE or any other desktop environment when deleting the akonadi-directories.

KDE 4.5.1 is out, maybe you should give it a try.

That was while upgrading to 4.5.1 (except of course kdepim en kdepim-runtime).
The fix marked by version 1.4.0_1 of databases/akonadi solves these issues I believe.
