I installed GNOME-2.30 on FreeBSD-8.1 but when I click on Applications-->Internet-->Empathy IM Client, it does not load.

Open gnome-terminal and start empathy there. Look for any messages that might give a clue why it's not working.

I opened gnome-terminal.
# /home/jeffrey >empathy
Failed to initialize GEM. Falling back to classic.

Same here.. FreeBSD 8.1 + Empathy 2.30.2

I know this is an old thread but I'll add so I don't create new ones. I am also having the same problem on 9.x

Anyone have a solution?
