This is a great addition to the freebsd community, with the abandonment of the last major message board to spam this is a much needed resource. Wonderful to see! :)

Nice to see so many positive reactions to the forums! I think I'll more likely follow the mailing lists, but if people run into problems where I can be of any help, I'll try to respond.

+1 ... great to have official forums!

Mail lists are so 20th century ;)

However the Nabble list interface at http://www.nabble.com/FreeBSD-f6549.html is quite good until this picks up steam.

You can actually access FreeBSD forums through https://forums.freebsd.org/.
Unfortunately, we currently have only a self-signed certificate.

definitely happy to see an official forum for us to post in!

dare i admit, that i enjoyed the romanticism of using the 'old way' to communicating using the mailing lists. i wonder how long it will be until the forum becomes a more common way to 'mass-discuss' freebsd topics?

I've always been more fond of forums than mailing lists.

I vote this the best move the project has made this year... okay, maybe a close second to 7.0-RELEASE, but it's nevertheless awesome.

This should have been done 10 years ago. A lot easier to use then subscribing to 1000 mail list, easier to search, easier to browse ... I've always missed an official freebsd forum ;).
Congratulation and thanks for the great job ! :)

Nice forum.

I especially liked the registration procedure - quick and simple.

One thing I found missing on BsdForum.org was that there were no fbsd developers (AFAIK) there.
So, some of the discussions/problems/feature requests/feedback probably never made it to the mailing lists.
Since a ML is not everyone's thing and a forum is more informal/accessible.

Good work guys. :beer

Great to have an official forum! +1

I'm personally more comfortable with forums over mailing lists - just easier to browse and I have enough trouble keeping on top of mail as it is. I'm sure the lists will continue to serve a vital need though.

More importantly, I suspect that the presence of a thriving (and friendly!) forum could do a lot to attract potential users who are checking out FreeBSD. It should help create a sense that there is a real live community out there, which in turn makes FreeBSD feel more approachable for the inquisitive/nervous. (This is of course predicated on the assumption that we welcome new users... ;))

I felt that there are a few bsd related forums, but for some reasons they never wanted to join forces. Hope this gets huge, for the collective good.
