I've recently installed Gnome (2.28.2_1) from ports on 8.0-R 32 bit inside a VMware Player VM (Win7 64). Gnome loads fine, but everywhere where one would expect to see text, there are instead boxes shown. I've used Gnome for a long time and never seen anything like it. I would seem that one of the pieces did not install properly, and reinstalling it would fix things. Any idea what this might be?
To eliminate some of the obvious questions: yes, FreeBSD works fine in Player -- I've two other installations that work fine (mostly). The right lines are in rc.conf, and the xorg.conf I use on another Player VM that works fine.
